Ayrton Senna

This Senna sculpture took a long time to complete. When I create one of these portrait busts I try to convey something of the drivers personality as well as the physical features and Senna had a very complex personality. He was intense, brooding, obsessive, exultant, and supernaturally gifted at the wheel of a racing car.

It took many months and many versions of the Senna bust before I felt it good enough t take a casting but even then when I looked at the first bronze bust I felt it just wasn’t “him”. There was no choice but to go back to the drawing board and start again from scratch and it took several more months of knuckle-chewing effort to produce a piece that I am proud to put my name to. I hope I have done him justice with this bust
