Adolf Galland was one of the most prominent German fighter pilots of World War II. He served during the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain. He eventually rose to the rank of Generalleutnant and becoming commander of Germany’s fighter arm from 1941 to 1945.
By November 1941 Galland had achieved 96 aerial victories, earning him the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds, one of the highest military decorations awarded by Germany during the war.
His influence on fighter tactics and leadership made him one of the most widely recognised figures among wartime fighter pilots.
