Sculpture Commissions
Peter Close accepts sculpture commissions for collectors, organisations and individuals wishing to create a unique bronze sculpture. These custom sculptures may celebrate an individual, commemorate a historic event, or capture the character of a beloved animal.
Each sculpture begins as a hand-modelled original before being cast in cold cast bronze and carefully finished by hand.
The Commission Process
Commissioning a sculpture is a collaborative process between the client and the sculptor. Peter Close works closely with collectors, organisations and families to create a sculpture that reflects the character and significance of the subject.
The process usually begins with an initial discussion to understand the ideas for the sculpture. This may include the subject, size of the piece and where the finished sculpture will be displayed. Reference photographs or other materials are then used to help guide the sculpting process.
Once the concept has been agreed, the sculpture is modelled by hand in clay. This stage allows the form and character of the subject to develop before the sculpture is cast. The finished model is then produced as a cold cast bronze sculpture, carefully finished to achieve the appearance and character of traditional bronze.
Throughout the process Peter keeps in contact with the client to ensure the sculpture captures the qualities that make the subject special. The final sculpture becomes a unique and lasting work of art created specifically for the commission.
