Peter Close Sculpture

Trojan Horse Bronze Sculpture

A cold cast bronze Trojan Horse sculpture is a timeless and captivating piece of art that pays homage to a legendary story from antiquity. Its combination of classical aesthetics and modern craftsmanship makes it a popular choice for art collectors, history enthusiasts, and anyone who appreciates the timeless allure of Greek mythology.

According to the myth, after a long and fruitless siege of the city of Troy by the Greek army, the Greeks devised a clever plan to gain access to the heavily fortified city. They constructed a massive wooden horse, hollowed out on the inside to conceal a select group of Greek warriors. The horse was then left outside the gates of Troy as a supposed offering to the gods, with the Greeks pretending to sail away, leaving it as a tribute to ensure safe passage home.

If the wooden horse truly did exist, logic dictates that the only materials available to the Greeks on the beach would have been the ships that they arrived in.

Bearing this in mind, Peter has given the sculpture a distinct feel of an ancient wooden ship.
